Here's How to Throw A Trendsetting Wedding

How many weddings have you been to in a barn? Or worse the over the top glamourous wedding at a cookie cutter wedding venue and then the food comes out still cold?! Brides and Grooms let me just say, save your money! Remember what the goal of your wedding is, it's to celebrate your vows to becoming one and starting a life together. You both are the hosts and have to throw the party of your life. Be different and be fun.

We searched the internet for some great ideas. We recommend googling some of these ideas in your area and don't be shy to negotiate. Keep in mind this is NOT trending, this is you trendsetting. Huge difference, think of the unconventional, never seen before, but don't forget to include who you both are as couple.

First let's start with your theme. We aren't talking glamour, simple, or black tie. Are you the festival couple, the hippie couple who love discovering organic products, the country couple who love the concerts and backyard fire pits, the city chic couple, or the fun couple who just want to start life as one together? Which ever it is, make sure it shows.

How many #weddings have you been to in a barn? Or worse the over the top glamourous wedding at a cookie cutter wedding venue and the food comes out still cold?! Brides and Grooms let me just say, save your money! Remember what the goal of your wedding is, it's to celebrate your vows to becoming one and starting a life together. You both are the hosts and have to throw the party of your life. Be different and be fun.

Here are a list of places you can look into in your area:

  • Hotels - small hotels or if you live near a destination area like Charleston. you can also get a deal if you block rooms for guests.

  • Restaurants - this can be a bit harder if you have a big guest list but for those doing a small intimate wedding this is perfect. I would recommend making sure they have a unique menu but be careful to not mix up unique with bizarre. I don't think too many people will go crazy over eating live squid. Unique meaning a different take on a classic dish.

  • Clubs- For you festival couples, you can rent a club, hire a couple of different small food business (i.e., wood fire pizza, sushi stand, comfort food, ice cream, cupcakes), and don't forget the DJ. Make sure the club is instagrammable, we don't just go to festivals for the music.

  • College and Universities- Some colleges/universities have beautiful campuses and places to rent.

Take Mahttanville College for example; on their property they have an old Chapel that was renovated with a class roof.

  • Estate's/ Private Mansions- This is for more of an exclusive wedding. Remember you have to hire catering, transportation for guests to a near by hotel or valet for those driving on their own

If you take your time looking you can find a unique place and they may even have someone who help you plan your wedding especially if it is a destination wedding.

Now you have the theme and venue, time for the bride(s) to pick the dress, accessories, and hairstyle/makeup.

Let's start with the hairstyle and makeup. If you are a frequent reader of our Vanity Envie blog, you will remember the trends for 2020 are natural or understanted. Nothing worse than caked on makeup and overdone hairstyle and the bride is unrecognizable. A simple blow dry and makeup noticeable in pictures.

Here are a few DO's and DON'T's:

Do....

Don't.....

My favorite part.... the wedding dress or PANTSUIT!!!!! Yes, I said PANTSUIT, lately there has been an increase of designers making pantsuits. Before you go and judge, here's some super chic wedding #pantsuits:

These pantsuits can be a choice instead of a second wedding gown or if you have a city hall wedding. These styles featured will set the #trendsetter bar pretty high!

So maybe I didn't win you over on the pantsuit and you want the #weddinggown. You want to be a trendsetter but don't want to loss touch of a little bit of tradition. No worries, here are some gowns for all your soon to be brides out there.

Festival Bride:

The key to the #festival bride is texture. Also, your accessories will be key, which we will get into next.

Look for Designer Lior Charchy.

Chic Bride:

Satin and BIG sleeves are back, but if those are too much for you, a simple pattern in your gown will do.

For #chic looks like these look at designers like Alon Livne.

Bohemian/Hippie Bride:

For the #bohemian or #hippie look think lace and maybe a little bit of tulle. Once again like the festival bride, your accessories are important.

For gowns like these Grace Loves Lace will be go to for your gown.

Country Bride:

Country doesn't have to be the same dress you see almost every bride wear to her barn wedding. You can wear a chic gown and have your bridesmaids wear a floral print.

For #country dresses like these check out Kuraje Wedding Dresses.

Now to accessorize your look. Few big trendsetting items are vails, hats, and capes. If you noticed some of these photos we featured had just that and that's what will make you complete your look.

Vails:

First let me say this, if your family has a vail from your grandmother's wedding or great grandmother's, incorporate it as a your something borrowed. Vintage styles are back!

OH AND CROWNS.......... Only advice on adding a crown, be very careful you are one step away from looking like an episode of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

Hats:

Hats tie in the festival look and country look. Bonus you can actually wear your hat with other outfits in the future.

Capes:

Trust me when I say people will be in awe of a cape. You will be the trendsetting superhero. It's something that isn't seen often but adds just a little more to your gown.

Now to remember this day and still hold the title of trendsetter, you will need a wedding band. the days of a solid gold band is over. At Vanity Envie we speaclize in #unique, #elelgant,#stunning wedding bands. You will want something you last can last the test of time and never look dated or simple. Here are our favorites:

Whatever you choose to do for your wedding whether big or small just makes sure it's never been done before. Also, make sure the booze is running and the music is playing loud!!
